Our EV Major Service is the more comprehensive maintenance service, typically carried out at the manufacturer’s recommended major-service interval and, on many vehicles, around every two years. It builds on the checks and maintenance included in the EV Full Service, with additional attention given to fluids, high-voltage components and systems that do not require inspection or replacement as frequently.
At Doyen Auto Services in Dumbarton, we tailor the EV Major Service to the vehicle manufacturer’s maintenance requirements, battery system design, mileage and service history. We do not replace fluids or components simply because they can be — we check the applicable specification and service interval first.

Brake fluid remains an important maintenance item even on an EV. Regenerative braking can significantly reduce the use of the conventional friction brakes, but it does not eliminate the need to maintain the hydraulic braking system.
Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it naturally absorbs moisture over time. Increased moisture content can lower the fluid’s boiling point and potentially affect braking performance under demanding conditions. Where the manufacturer specifies a replacement interval, we replace the fluid using the correct specification and bleed the braking system properly.
The high-voltage cooling system also receives additional attention during the major service. Depending on the vehicle, coolant may be used to regulate the temperature of the battery, inverter, electric drive unit and other high-voltage components.
Not every EV requires coolant replacement at the same interval. Some manufacturers specify long-life coolant with a longer service period, while other vehicle designs have specific replacement requirements. We check the applicable manufacturer specification before recommending coolant replacement.
Where coolant replacement is required, we use the appropriate specification and follow the correct filling, bleeding and system-venting procedure for the vehicle.

We also carry out a deeper inspection of the electric drive system, including the motor, inverter and charging hardware where accessible and appropriate. Diagnostic data is checked for relevant fault codes, abnormal readings and system warnings.
The purpose of an EV Major Service is preventative maintenance — identifying developing problems before they become expensive failures while ensuring the vehicle’s critical mechanical, electrical and high-voltage systems remain within the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance requirements.
We do not believe in unnecessary servicing or replacing components simply to increase the invoice. If a fluid or component is not due for replacement according to the applicable vehicle specification, we will explain this rather than recommend unnecessary work.
