The high-voltage battery is one of the most valuable and technically complex components in an electric vehicle. Alongside the vehicle’s charging system, it is also one of the areas where accurate diagnosis is essential. A reduction in driving range, slow charging or intermittent charging faults do not necessarily mean the battery itself has failed.
At Doyen Auto Services in Dumbarton, we provide specialist EV battery and charging-system diagnostics designed to identify the underlying cause of performance and charging issues. Using appropriate EV diagnostic equipment and manufacturer-specific data where available, we assess the condition and operation of the relevant high-voltage and charging systems rather than relying on assumptions based purely on symptoms.
Our EV battery and charging diagnostics can include:
* High-voltage battery State of Health (SOH) assessment * Battery State of Charge (SOC) analysis * Battery cell and module voltage monitoring * Cell-balance analysis * Battery temperature and thermal-system checks * High-voltage system fault-code diagnosis * Charging-port inspection * AC charging system diagnostics * DC fast-charging system diagnostics * On-board charger (OBC) functional checks * DC/DC converter diagnostics * Charging communication fault investigation * High-voltage isolation fault diagnosis * Charging cable and connector inspection
If your EV has experienced a noticeable reduction in range, inconsistent charging, reduced DC fast-charging performance, charging interruptions or problems connecting to an AC home charger, professional diagnostics can help determine whether the issue is related to the battery, charging equipment, vehicle communication systems or another component.
For example, reduced charging speed does not automatically indicate a deteriorating battery. Charging temperature, battery State of Charge, battery thermal management, charger capability, charging infrastructure and vehicle protection strategies can all affect charging performance.
We can also inspect the condition of the vehicle’s charging connections and, where appropriate, assess charging cables for signs of damage, wear or degradation. A faulty cable, connector or charging interface can cause intermittent charging problems that may otherwise be incorrectly attributed to the high-voltage battery.
Where required, we can also provide guidance on home-charging arrangements and good charging practices. Correct charging behaviour, appropriate battery temperature management and avoiding unnecessary extremes of State of Charge can help support long-term battery health.
High-voltage EV systems require specialist safety procedures and appropriate equipment. Our diagnostic approach is therefore based on the vehicle’s specific high-voltage architecture and manufacturer requirements. We do not make assumptions about battery condition without supporting diagnostic evidence.
Case-by-case pricing. The figures below are starting “from” prices - your final quote depends on your vehicle's make, model, and condition.
